Sutter’s Fort was built by Swiss immigrant John Sutter more than 150 years ago was not only located at a pivotal point in California. It was a pivotal point in history. Built in Sacramento, he built what came to be known as Sutter’s Fort. In 1848, James Marshall, a carpenter working for Sutter, was looking over the field when a sparkle of light in the dark earth caught his eye. Looking more closely, he found much of the property was speckled with what appeared to be small flecks of gold, and he rushed to tell Sutter.
After it was confirmed that the flakes were indeed gold, Sutter quietly set about gathering up as much of the gold as he could, hoping to keep the discovery a secret. However, word soon leaked out and within months, the largest gold rush in the world had begun. Ironically, the California gold rush was a disaster for Sutter. It brought thousands of men who overran Sutter’s property. By the 1850’s, all that was left of Sutter’s Fort was the central building forever changing the course of history in the American West. This history led to choosing the name Sutter for our Wealth Management firm

Phil is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™. As the Senior Partner and Wealth Management Advisor at Sutter Wealth Management Phil completed his semiannual training with America’s IRA Experts at Ed Slott and Company, LLC in Dallas, Texas. May 2-3, 2019. The workshop, which was attended by members of Ed Slott’s Elite IRA Advisor GroupSM, provided in-depth technical training on advanced retirement account planning strategies and estate planning techniques and new tax laws, as well as a proactive look at legislation currently being considered by Congress that would bring significant changes to the way Americans plan for retirement. He attended a business succession program involving strategic business planning, business succession, and buy sell agreements; business valuation, investments, and insurance planning for business owners; asset preservation strategies and family dynamics, intra-family transfers, sales to third parties, and ESOPs. He attended California State University Fresno where he studied Business Administration.
In his spare time, Phil enjoys traveling and golfing.

Dixie has 30+ years in the industry working as a senior client associate to seasoned financial advisors. She joined Sutter Wealth Management in 2018 as Director of Marketing, helping Phil grow his business through social media.

Randy Kolenda moved his practice to Sutter Wealth Management in July 2019 after nearly a decade at Wells Fargo Advisors. The experience at a large firm, serving several hundred clients with a wide variety of investment objectives convinced Randy that his true strength is in providing goals-based, long term financial planning and investing guidance to families, individuals and small business owners. The opportunity to serve a smaller number of handpicked clients as an independent, fee-based advisor in a fiduciary role, is what led Randy to join the Sutter Wealth Management team.
Using an interactive process, Mr. Kolenda guides clients in addressing areas of immediate need and identifying long-term goals. A comprehensive plan for goal achievement and life-long financial peace of mind is constructed and agreed upon. The plan is by necessity goal-specific, dollar-specific, and date-specific. A detailed funding schedule and investment policy fuels the plan.
Randy graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Operations Management. He proudly devoted nine years to service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, sailing throughout the South Pacific and Indian Oceans. After the military, Randy entered the private sector managing a multi-state region on behalf of a national retail chain for eight years, and then ten years as the owner of a regional chain of stores.
Randy lives in El Dorado Hills with his wife, Cori. They like serving the community through their church, travelling, and spending time with their adult daughter and son.
